PERMISSION FOR USE

BY OTHERS

The policy for use and production of ministry-like materials by other persons or entities is outline in this section.  This applies to issues such as the use of the ministry logo and symbols on merchandise or materials produced by others.

Logo and Symbols

Sponsoring parishes/congregations have permission to use the ministry logo and symbols as part of their promoting and presenting the programs within their church.  Promotional items are bulletins and advertisements as well as a parish/congregation website.  In presenting the programs, the logo and symbols may be used on items like Weekend mementos and on rosters.  Any other use of the logo or symbols requires written permission from the Board of Directors  (Board).  In addition, the logo and symbols must not be used, in whole or in part, for any purpose other than for this ministry.  No other logos or symbols are to be used.  (please see Logos and Symbols)

Program Promotion

As noted in the preceding section, some sponsoring parishes/congregations desire to produce or obtain special items for their program promotions and presentations.  Such items are usually promotional materials (e.g., handouts, bulletins), "mementos" for Weekends, and websites.  The ministry encourages the use of these items and, as noted in the previous section, approves the use of the ministry logo and symbols with these items.

For other materials and items, prior permission must be obtained from the Board in writing.  The requests must be sent to the Board several months before a proposed action so that the Board has sufficient time to evaluate and respond to the request.  An additional requirement, is that these items (including the merchandise and other sale-like items described in the following section) can only be used within the sponsoring parish/congregation, and not beyond.

Merchandise (Sale Items)

Merchandise (and other sale) items that a sponsor may wish to produce for their use with the ministry logo and/or symbols are examples of items where prior permission must be obtained from the Board in writing.  When these and other items have potential for generating funds, a 'royalty' fee must be paid to the ministry (The Marriage Enrichment Weekend Program, Inc.).

Royalty

The policy regarding 'royalty' is as follows:

bulletA royalty must be paid to the ministry for merchandise and other income producing items, produced by others, that use the program logo and symbols.
bulletRequests to produce such materials must be sent to and reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors.
bulletPermission will be given only for use by a specific parish or congregation.
bulletOnly approved items may be produced by a given parish/congregation.
bulletA royalty of fifteen percent (15%) must be paid on gross sale price of the materials (or items).

The royalty must be pre-paid to the ministry.  This means that the entire royalty is to be paid at the time the materials/items are procured (not at the time they are sold) by the parish/congregation.

Quality

Maintaining a quality product is a ministry requirement.  The materials produced by the ministry set the standard that must be maintained throughout the Marriage Enrichment community.

Failure to Comply

Ignoring, misusing, or misrepresenting these policies can lead to suspension from the ministry.  Legal action is also a possibility.  Copyright and trademark laws protect all ministry materials, including the logo and symbols.
